What a Powerwall 3 Does

Backup When the Grid Drops, Savings When It Doesn't

Most of the year the grid is fine. A well-designed Powerwall earns its place on those days too.

⚡

Automatic Backup

When the grid fails, the house switches to the battery in a fraction of a second. Lights, fridge, furnace fan, internet and the sump pump keep running. Nobody touches a switch.

🕒

Daily Time-of-Use Savings

The battery charges when power is cheapest overnight and runs the house through the expensive evening peak, every day of the year.

☀️

Ready for Solar

Powerwall 3 has a solar inverter built in, so panels can be added now or later without a second inverter, and keep charging the battery during an outage.

Energy vs. Power

One Powerwall, an Expansion, or Two Powerwalls?

An Expansion adds energy: more hours of backup. A second Powerwall adds power: more running at the same time. Your hourly data tells us which one your house needs, and often that the smaller system is enough.

ConfigurationStored energyContinuous powerTypical fit
Powerwall 313.5 kWh11.5 kWEssential loads, most homes
Powerwall 3 + 1 Expansion27 kWh11.5 kWLonger outages, larger homes
Powerwall 3 + 2 Expansions40.5 kWh11.5 kWAll-electric homes, long outages
2 × Powerwall 327 kWh23 kWHigh simultaneous loads

Up to three Expansions can be added to one Powerwall 3. Big loads such as electric heat, a sauna or snow-melting mats are planned around the battery, not just added to it.

How We Size It

Sized on Your Data, Not a Brochure

📈

A Year of Hourly Data

We pull your hourly usage from Toronto Hydro (or your local utility) and find your real peaks, by season and by hour, instead of guessing from nameplates.

🏠

Whole Home or Essentials

We map which circuits must run in an outage and which can wait, then decide between whole-home backup and an essential-loads panel.

🔌

The Right Connection

Tesla Gateway 3 at the service, or the new Tesla Backup Switch at the meter where the utility accepts it. We confirm with Toronto Hydro and ESA before anything is ordered.

Straight Answers

Tesla Powerwall Questions

The kind we would give before you commit a dollar of capital. Tap a question.

How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 cost installed in Toronto?
A single Powerwall 3 starts at $25,000 installed before HST, including the Gateway, engineering, ESA permit, the Toronto Hydro application and commissioning. Expansions and a second Powerwall are priced in a fixed written quote after we review your usage data. With new solar, the Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program can return up to $10,000. See active rebates.
How long will a Powerwall 3 run my house in an outage?
One Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh. On essential loads (fridge, freezer, furnace fan, lights, internet, sump pump) that is typically most of a day. An Expansion doubles the energy to 27 kWh. Big loads such as electric heat or a sauna shorten it, which is why we size from your hourly data and plan which loads run during an outage.
Do I need an Expansion or a second Powerwall?
An Expansion adds energy, a second Powerwall adds power. A second Powerwall 3 doubles continuous output from 11.5 kW to 23 kW. Most Toronto homes that need more than one battery's worth of backup need more hours, not more power, so an Expansion is usually the better buy. Your hourly data settles it.
Will I need a panel or service upgrade for a Powerwall?
Usually not. A Powerwall connects at the service through a Tesla Gateway or Backup Switch, and most Toronto homes keep their existing 100 A or 200 A service. We confirm it with a load calculation from your real data before quoting. Our Leaside case study backed up a 5,000+ sq ft all-electric home on its existing 200 A service.
Can I get the Ontario rebate for a Powerwall without solar?
No. The Home Renovation Savings Program pays $300 per kWh of battery storage (up to $5,000) only when the battery is paired with a new solar system sized for it, designed for load displacement and not on net metering. Pre-approval is required before buying any equipment.
Who handles the permits and the Toronto Hydro approval?
We do. We file the ESA permit, prepare the single-line drawing and the Toronto Hydro connection application, and book the inspection. You sign where the utility needs the owner's signature.
Do you install Powerwalls outside Toronto?
Yes. We install across the GTA, including Scarborough, North York, East York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Newmarket, and further out by arrangement. Each utility has its own connection process and we handle it.
